Autism & Sleep

Autistic children often experience sleep issues – did you know that children with autism are twice as likely to have trouble with their sleep? We know how much this can affect your whole family. Our team are here to support you to get your child’s sleep back on track.

Can you help my child with autism sleep better?

Yes! We have lots of experience helping children with autism improve their sleep. Perhaps you would also like help because your child is taking a long time to fall asleep? Or you might be looking for strategies to stop night waking or waking too early in the morning. We can also support you in transitioning your child to their own bed or room.

How do you create sleep strategies?

Little Talks Autism Consulting can help you implement a sleep intervention programme so that your child will fall asleep faster, sleep through the night, wake up at an acceptable time and sleep by themselves. A sleep intervention programme first involves a sleep assessment whereby you will answer some questions and fill out a daily sleep log for approximately two weeks. Following the results of this assessment, a member of the Little Talks team will make an intervention plan and support you to carry out the recommendations. This support can be provided both remotely and in person.

The sleep strategies we give you will be tailored to your child. They might include recommendations on how to optimise your child’s bedtime routine to help them wind down for bed. If you find it hard to help your child to relax and wind down, we can also help you find activities that they find motivating and calming. Based on the information from your sleep log, we can also help you to find the best bedtime and wake time to support your child’s sleep.
