Support for autistic children who are non-speaking, hard to understand, or have limited speech
You’re not alone if you’re worried about how your autistic child is communicating. Perhaps they’re not speaking yet, using only a few words, repeating lines from films or TV shows, or you just have a sense that something’s not quite right. We offer communication support for your autistic child, focused on helping them connect in ways that feel natural and meaningful. We meet them where they are and help you move forward with confidence.
Hands-on communication support is available to families in Tyne and Wear, Teesside, Edinburgh, West Lothian, and Glasgow.

Who is it for?
This service may be of interest if you are:
-
- Wondering whether your child's development is delayed or different.
- Hearing concerns from nursery, school or others, but not sure what steps to take.
- Curious as to whether pictures or a speech device could support your child's communication.
- Looking for respectful, practical ways to help your child communicate.
- Interested in getting consistent guidance from someone who takes the time to connect with your child and understand your family.
How can we help?
By visiting your home and working directly with you and your child on a regular basis, we aim to help your child to achieve the following:
-
- Build connection through play: Playful, joyful interactions open the door to communication.
- Communicate in their own way: Whether it's gesturing, speaking or using a speech-generating device, we nurture whatever modes of communication work best for your child.
- Grow meaningful skills: From making requests to sharing special interests, we focus on what your child most wants and needs to say.
How does it work?
We will begin with a free initial consultation to understand your child, your family and your goals. We will discuss your availability and budget before agreeing on a personalised plan for you and your family.
There is no obligation to continue after this call. If you choose to move forward, we typically recommend a series of weekly or fortnightly visits.
During our home visits, we will:
-
- Get to know your child, discuss your family priorities, and carry out assessments to make a personalised communication goal plan.
- Work in a fun and play-based way with your child, taking time to really get to know what motivates them.
- Try out different modes of communication to see what best suits your child.
Focus on what matters to your child, not just ticking developmental boxes. That might mean helping them ask for a snack, tell you "stop," or share a special interest. - Give you opportunities to observe, join in, and build confidence in using the strategies between sessions.
- Give you practical strategies that you can do to support your child's communication development as a part of your daily routines.
Every 6-12 months, we step back, celebrate your child’s progress, and create an updated set of communication goals.
We always aim to stay focused on communication skills which enrich life for your unique child and family.
